About me
I’m Luca Rigo, 23, originally from Zichen-Zussen-Bolder, Belgium. I recently graduated with distinction from the University of Hasselt, where I studied architecture. I focus on creating spaces that genuinely support people in their daily lives, fostering connection, well-being, and opportunity.
Beyond architecture, I enjoy giving back to my community, whether engaging with local youth, playing football, or exploring new cultures through travel. Every experience inspires me to approach design with curiosity, empathy, and a human touch.
Experience
Project Participant – Erasmus+ BIP Workshop
ISCTE – Lisbon, Portugal
Nov 2024
This project was developed as part of the ERASMUS+ BIP workshop “Housing Solutions in the 21st Century Cities: Facing the affordable housing crisis”. The workshop focused on finding practical and affordable housing solutions in Odivelas, Lisbon, where income disparities make housing increasingly inaccessible. Working together with architecture students from across Europe allowed us to combine diverse perspectives and approaches in addressing the challenge. This collaboration highlighted the importance of cross-cultural exchange and teamwork in developing innovative and context-sensitive design strategies.
Intern
Studio Tecnico e di Architettura D’Odorico – Portogruaro, Italy
Jul 2024 – Aug 2024
During my 20-day internship at Studio Tecnico e di Architettura D’Odorico, I was introduced to both architectural and surveying practices within one office. The internship provided a broad range of experiences, from measuring existing buildings and landscapes with GNSS technology to contributing to the design of renovation and agritourism projects. This combination of precise surveying and architectural design gave me valuable insights into how technical accuracy and creative design go hand in hand. Experiencing this multidisciplinary approach in an Italian context broadened my professional perspective and deepened my understanding of the different facets of the architectural profession.
Exchange Program Participant
Politecnico di Milano – Milan, Italy
Sep 2023 – Feb 2024
During my exchange program at Politecnico di Milano, I was able to engage with a different academic and cultural environment. The courses placed a strong focus on heritage, technical aspects, and concrete calculations, which contrasted and complemented the more conceptual and abstract approach at UHasselt. This combination allowed me to gain a broader understanding of the discipline and to strengthen my technical knowledge. In addition, living in a foreign city was a valuable personal experience, giving me the opportunity to adapt to a new environment and further develop my cultural awareness.
Student Worker
Nelissen Steenfabrieken – Kesselt, Belgium
Jul 2020 – Sep 2025
During my time as a student worker at Nelissen Brick Factories from 2020 to 2025, I gained valuable experience in understanding the manufacturing process of building materials such as bricks. This experience provided me with insights into the factors that can influence variation in production. Additionally, being involved in the early stages of material production allowed me to better understand the complete journey of a building material from raw production to its role in the construction of a building. This experience helped me to look at architecture in a more complete way.
